Most people are aware of stamped concrete and that the stamping gives a wonderful look of hand laid stone or slate. It can do that for a fraction of the price. Stamped concrete is something that has become mainstream and is a great alternative for someone who wants more than just the plain gray concrete that is so commonly poured.
There is also an alternative process that is less widely known but is just as decorative and just as cost effective. That is known as Stenciled concrete or concrete stenciling. Much like stamping, stenciling is done on fresh new concrete. It is not an overlay that you apply to the top, though it can be used in that way too. It is a process that is very similar to stamped concrete but there are a couple of notable differences.
Stenciling leaves a better and flatter surface so that furniture sits more readily and evening. In addition, it increases the resistance to slippage and leaves very nice and more realistic mortar joints.
Rather than using the stamps to make impressions in the concrete paper stencils are used. They come in many different types of patterns. You’re able to get nearly anything that you can get with stamped concrete and there are some very viable bonuses. Ask your concrete contractor about getting stenciled concrete for your floor or patio.
